Business Security Trends to Watch in 2025
Commercial and business security challenges grow every year. Technology becomes more sophisticated while at the same time, so do thieves and other perpetrators. Over the past year, we’ve seen AI become more prevalent in our lives and security is no different. Predictive technologies can advance security strategies to be more proactive than reactive. Here are a few security trends to look for in 2025.
Commercial Access Control
According to Veris, a technology and SaaS company, enhanced access control is going to be trend to watch.
Biometric authentication will move from a singular point of authentification such as fingerprints to include facial recognition, iris scanning and “even vein pattern recognition.” These biometrics verify a person’s unique physical traits making unauthorized access much more secure. AI advancements can provide faster and more accurate results, reducing security risks significantly. Because of cost and privacy concerns, some AI-driven security systems may take longer for businesses to adopt.
Cloud-Based Management Systems
More businesses will move their security systems to cloud storage from traditional servers. With security systems in the cloud, managers can access their security systems anywhere at any time. They can access security logs, report and systems controls whenever they need to in real-time. Cloud-based systems will help security managers keep their locations and systems centralized and stay up-to-date.
Integrated Security Systems
Although not a new strategy, integrating facilities operating systems with security systems will become more common. Being able to control access, security cameras, alarms, lighting, HVAC and other environmental systems provides a comprehensive “ecosystem” for your business.
Mobile Access Control
As with home security, in 2025 commercial security moves toward relying on mobile phones for secure entry, as well as QR codes for user credentials. Users won’t need physical or electronic key cards. Organizations already using these types of technologies are public transit systems and sports arenas.
Preventative Security with AI
The use of AI, although controversial, is becoming more and more a reality in many industries. In the security vertical, AI introduces predictive security by detecting patterns, identifying potential risks and analyzing this data in real time. AI-driven analytics gives security managers insights to make informed decisions to improve security and safety and anticipate security issues before they happen.
Other AI threat detection analytics offer information such as identification of faces, license plates, and unusual or irregular behavior patterns. This allows law enforcement and security personnel to intervene in a crime in progress or give them better information in their investigation after a crime occurs.
In 2025, businesses will move toward enhanced access control and other technological upgrades to keep security operating at a high level or create a safer working environment. Security strategies will continue to leverage smart devices, integrate security systems and adopt AI (along with defined regulations to preserve personal and operation privacy).
